Environmental pollution is the main impact of the problem of poorly managed livestock waste. Livestock waste in solid and liquid form can pollute the air in the surrounding environment. Beef cattle is one of the livestock commodities that is commonly kept in rural communities as an asset/savings for farmers. In addition to being an asset or savings, cattle also produce waste that requires proper handling. Sido Makmur Livestock Group, Babakan, Srandakan, Bantul, has around 200 cattle that have not maximally processed their waste. The conventional rearing system and lack of information on sustainable manure/waste management have made the Sido Makmur Livestock Group's livestock business affected by the piling up of livestock waste. The potential of livestock waste that has not been handled perfectly is what encourages the 2023 Appropriate Technology Service activities by mobilizing human resources in livestock groups to produce organic fertilizer (compost) by mixing agricultural waste that is also around. The service that will be carried out for 6 months (June to November 2023) is located in Babakan Hamlet, Poncosari, Srandakan, Bantul, targeting the SIdo Makmur Livestock Group. The service activity seeks to produce outputs in the form of ready-to-use compost fertilizer products, videos, and posters of service activities.
